Building On The Rock

About Us

A Short History

Matt 21:42 NKJV
Jesus said to them, "Have you never read in the Scriptures: 'The stone which the builders rejected Has become the chief cornerstone.
This was the LORD's doing, And it is marvelous in our eyes'?

Our Beginning

On February 25, 2001 CornerStone first gathered at the Moline Viking Club on 41st Street, Moline, Illinois, to minister God's love and grace to people who had re-discovered that God's Church is not a building. The enthusiasm for a new church that would be called CornerStone was immediately evident.

A focus group met on March 14th to consider the task before us. On Sunday, March 18, 2001, following the morning worship, 115 said yes to a church start.  CornerStone began!

Through the month of June, charter members were received. A beautiful Bible was donated. All who determined to join were encouraged to sign their names next to an especially meaningful Bible verse.

What About A Name?

Several suggestions were made for a church name but the majority of suggested names included "something with Cornerstone as the key word.” The direction was clear. CornerStone Christian Fellowship of the Quad Cities was born. The Moline Viking Club was secured for meetings Sunday morning and evening meetings around  pre-existing rental contracts and activities.

CornerStone Charter

Through an affiliation with Kingsway Fellowship International, CornerStone was officially chartered.  Jerry and Sharon Helms were received as pastors. Other staff was added. The church Servants’ Council was formed. The choir was formed under direction of the Director of Music, Jan Fulkerson.  Capable volunteers filled other ministry positions.

A New Location

Since July of 2001 CornerStone has leased the spacious facilities of the Scottish Rite Cathedral located at 1800 7th Ave Moline, Illinois.
